Since 2000, we have recruited 407 apprentices and our retention rate is 97%, but our commitment to training for the industry started much earlier, and since 1937 Seddon has helped over 3,567 people start their career in construction.

Seddon annually employs apprentices of all ages, supporting them as they work towards an advanced level apprenticeship. Practical work-related tasks, which develop the skills and knowledge to do the job effectively, are supplemented by short courses and training is undertaken on a day release and block release basis through local colleges, usually over a period of 3 to 4 years.

In addition to your qualification, you will be

  • Paid a Living Wage salary (
  • Working alongside a qualified mentor, day to day
  • Coached by your line manager
  • Supported by our training department
  • Working four days a week, with day release for college
  • Given the opportunity to apply for a full time position, once you complete you training.

How to apply for a Seddon Apprenticeship

Applications for a Seddon Apprenticeship in 2019 will open on Monday 4th March (National Apprenticeship Week) and will remain open until Friday 3rd May 2019.

Apprentice Application Timeline

  • Applications Open: Monday 4th March 2019
  • Closing date: Friday 3rd May 2019
  • Short listing: 13-24th May 2019
  • Group Interviews and assessments: 3rd June 2019 – 14th June 2019
  • Second Phase Interviews and CITB Tests: Before the 28th June 2019 *this only applies to plumbing and electrical applicants
  • Individual Interviews will take place between 24th June 2019 – 5th July 2019
  • Successful applicants to start: July 29th 2019

What we need from you?

If you have not received a response from Seddon by the 24th May 2019, please assume your application has been unsuccessful.

Group interview will involve working in a team of 4 to undertake a work based exercise. Following this there will be a short assessment involving basic numeracy and literacy.

Individual interviews will involve one-to-one discussion with specific trade representatives. Individuals should prepare accordingly and bring a copy of the following:

In 2017, Seddon Graduates attended over 875 days of accredited academic study and whether you¹re a recent graduate or an undergraduate, there is a wealth of opportunity to learn and grow at Seddon.

The Seddon Graduate Programme is designed for recent graduates who have gained or who are expected to gain at least a 2:1 in a built environment subject. The programme is structured around developing an individual’s technical and professional skill sets, in order to encourage them to reach their potential

The Seddon Sandwich Placement

  • Designed for students who are currently studying a first degree in a Built Environment subject
  • Who want to gain industry experience over a 12-month period
  • Want knowledge of range different built sectors
  • Sectors include project; operations, customer liaison, procurement and design

Supply Chain

Seddon has developed a Strong reputation for Quality and this is due in no small part to our excellent relationship with our subcontractors and suppliers. Our Supply Chain plays a significant role in the delivery of goods and services across all our sectors, therefore our selection process is central to everything we do.

To be eligible to work with Seddon, our supply chain needs to demonstrate the highest level of quality together with Health and Safety and therefore it is a mandatory requirement for all our subcontractors to be certified by Constructionline to a minimum Silver level standard plus hold the necessary SSIP certification. Constructionline is the UK’s largest pre-qualified register for construction-related contractors and provides our prequalification solutions.
