Seddon honours star apprentices and trainees at Salford awards event

Top apprentices and trainees with national construction specialist Seddon will be honoured at a VIP awards event on Friday, 1 November at Salford City College.

MP for Salford and Eccles Hazel Blears will attend to meet the company’s rising young stars and will also present the Outstanding Contribution in Learning Award for the apprentice, trainees or graduate who has most shone in 2013. Awards will also go to the top apprentices in their first and second years of training and to the company’s overall Apprentice of the Year 2013.

Seddon has received a series of accolades for its training achievements, including being named Employer of the Year (for the second time in three years) by the UK Contractors Group in 2013 for its industry-leading apprentice programme. Places on the programme are keenly contested with Seddon receiving 870 applications for the 2013 intake. Seddon has also recently secured National Skills Academy for Construction status for its plans to train 50 apprentices, create over 90 new jobs and organise 134 work placements over the next three years.

Hazel Blears, Labour MP for Salford and Eccles, said: "We have some really talented young people here in Salford and across Greater Manchester.

"Sometimes, they just need to be given that chance to show what they can do and it is fantastic that Seddon is doing that through its apprenticeships and trainee schemes.

"I was delighted to hear how these young people had worked hard to make the most of these opportunities and it will be a pleasure to present one of the awards.”

Staff across Seddon were invited to nominate candidates for the awards and put forward apprentices and trainees excelling in their field and committed to progressing their careers with Seddon.

Seddon managing director Jonathan Seddon says: "The talent and dedication displayed by our apprentices and trainees across the company is an inspiration. This event underlines our commitment to celebrating their achievements, recognising their hard work and  helping them to continue developing their careers with us.”
