Jason McGee, a contracts manager with Bolton-based national construction specialist Seddon, has been named the region’s Best Site Agent in the LABC North West Building Excellence Awards.
He took the title – presented in a ceremony at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium - for his work overseeing the building of 59 new three- and four-bedroom affordable homes at Plymouth Avenue, Longsight, Manchester, for Great Places Housing Group. The Longsight scheme was finished in February 2013 – three months earlier than the original scheduled completion date.
Jason’s expertise enabled the construction team to maintain a 17- to 18-week build timetable for each home, despite some terrain that made building difficult. His close communication with Manchester City Council’s building control team ensured that high standards were achieved throughout.
LABC chief executive Paul Everall says: "Our regional Building Excellence Awards are an opportunity to celebrate good practice. Our winner and those commended all demonstrated attention to detail and a positive working relationship with their Building Control departments.
"Jason is a worthy winner for managing a difficult project effectively and his liaison with the local primary school – providing t-shirts, health and safety information, a new safe footpath away from the site and carrying out odd jobs around the school – is a shining example of good practice. He and the commended candidates are improving the reputation of builders and the building trade and my congratulations go to them all.”
The Plymouth Avenue scheme has also just been named as one of the UK’s top 50 affordable housing developments by leading sector magazine Inside Housing. It was also nominated in the Best Large Housing Development category at the LABC North West Building Excellence Awards.
Seddon chief executive Jonathan Seddon says: "Jason is an outstanding construction professional and this award is well deserved. He is committed to delivering the best possible service for our clients and ensuring that our projects are built to the highest standards.”
Jason is now in the running for a national LABC Building Excellence Award later this year.
