BRISTOL-BASED SEDDON SECURES SOUTH WALES BUSINESS WINS

The Bristol office of Seddon Construction is making its mark on the Welsh housing market after securing work with Bron Afon Community Housing and being appointed by Swansea-based Coastal Housing Group to a four-year development framework.

Seddon will compete for contracts to build new affordable homes and social housing for Coastal Housing Group in the south-west Wales area. The work could also include projects to build care homes, doctors’ surgeries, community buildings as well as refurbishment schemes. As part of its commitment to creating benefits for the communities where it works, Seddon will create local job and training opportunities.

In addition, Seddon has been chosen by Bron Afon Community Housing to carry out two tower block improvement programmes, together worth £1.9 million, in Cwmbran, south-east Wales. They include a £997,000 refurbishment programme at The Tower – Cwmbran’s tallest building. Seddon has just started work on the scheme to upgrade the 1960s-built 22-storey high-rise block with over-cladding, the installation of replacement windows, re-roofing work, reconstruction of the main entrance area and the redecoration of external communal areas. Through a separate contract for Bron Afon Community Housing, Seddon is also about to embark on a £907,000 programme of refurbishment at the Monmouth House high-rise in Cwmbran, including over-cladding and the installation of replacement windows.

Peter Howell, head of asset management and investment, Bron Afon, says: "Bron Afon is pleased to have these two exciting projects starting. They will secure and enhance the iconic status of these buildings within the townscape of Cwmbran. The main purpose of the work is to ensure the building structures are preserved for another generation but the work will also deliver considerable energy savings for tenants and leaseholders living in the blocks, along with an exciting new modern look that will enhance the town as a whole.”

"We’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with both Coastal Housing Group and Bron Afon Community Housing in South Wales using our expertise in affordable housing new-build, regeneration and refurbishment,” says Seddon Construction business unit manager Grant Millar.

Seddon, which has 20 office- and site-based staff in the region, as well as employing a local subcontractor workforce of around 200, is based at the Aztec West Business Park, Almondsbury, Bristol.

The Bristol office specialises in construction projects for the healthcare, education, affordable housing, conservation and ecclesiastical sectors in Bristol, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Bath and North East Somerset, South Wales, Devon and Wiltshire. The regional business has grown from a £6 million turnover in 2010 to an anticipated £13.5 million turnover in the West of England and South Wales this year and aims to continue that growth with an anticipated turnover of £25 million by 2016.

Seddon Construction is part of the national Seddon Group, a family-owned company specialising in construction, maintenance and house building.
