Bolton-based Seddon Construction has appointed Nicola Hodkinson and Carl Wilde to the company’s board of directors.
Nicola, who began working for the company in 1999, is the company’s head of customer care and training with responsibility for corporate social responsibility, customer service and aftercare, people development and information technology. A member of the fourth generation of the Seddon family, she joined the business after graduating from Manchester University with a first-class honours degree in social information technology.
Nicola Hodkinson – training and customer care expertise
Nicola, who lives in Macclesfield, is focused on building on the company’s strong commitment to training. In her training role, she heads up this year’s anniversary drive for new recruits and trainees with the Seddon Group overall set to take on 75 trainees and apprentices in its 75th anniversary year of apprentice training. She believes strongly in encouraging a more diverse workforce, highlighting the opportunities for women in the industry, as well as ensuring that current staff are nurtured through opportunities for development and training. "We have a high employee retention rate – currently 90 per cent – and that’s something we should be very proud of,” she says. "In addition, my priorities include continuing to drive our focus on customer-centred construction and ensuring that the company is the first choice for social landlords looking for a construction partner.”
Carl Wilde - apprentice joiner to board director
Carl, who lives in Bolton, is the company’s head of construction and leads the health and safety, quality, labour and planning departments. After starting his career as an apprentice joiner, Carl joined Seddon 14 years ago as a site manager. In that role, he led the delivery of key projects including the £10 million Village Hotel at Bury and was promoted to contracts manager before becoming head of construction. He now oversees construction delivery across the UK, heading up a construction team of 600.
"My role is to see us continue to deliver bigger projects, not least because larger schemes enable us to do more training and bring more people into the business,” says Carl. "It’s also essential that we continue to make the most of the vast expertise that exists across the company by sharing best practice. But most importantly, my job is about maintaining and reinforcing our reputation for delivering a high-quality, on-time product for our clients.”
Seddon Construction managing director Jonathan Seddon says: "Nicola and Carl have been fundamental in shaping the company’s development and I am delighted to welcome them to the board where their skills and experience will see them continue to make a strong contribution to our continuing business success.” Part of the Seddon Group, Seddon Construction has a turnover of more than £150 million and employs over 1,000 people. The company provides the full range of construction services, specialising in new-build, refurbishment, development and sustainable energy.
The Seddon Group is a family-owned company specialising in construction, painting and maintenance and housebuilding, with a national turnover of over £250 million.
