The Team at Seddon Bathgate are the second part of the Seddon Property Services business to have achieved the Sustainable Mark Award. The Seddon Whitbread contract which operates nationally was the first SPSL contract to achieve the award, so Bathgate can be proud to be the first area office to have been acknowledged with this award.
Every Seddon office and employee has been asked to play their part in helping the business achieve the our sustainable goals. Seddon launched the Sustainable Pledge Award to acknowledge each office that contributes to each of the four pledge areas. If an office achieves one initiative for each of the four focus areas (Marketplace, Environment, Workplace and Community) they are then awarded the Sustainable Mark.
Mark Pullar (Operation Manager) commented: "We have a great team here at the Bathgate office and I ask every employee to play their part in helping make Seddon a success. We aim to provide an excellent service to our clients and any added value we can bring to these contracts plays a big part in distinguishing us from our competitors. I believe it is this excellent client service that has helped build our reputation in the Scottish marketplace and helped us win some very important contracts recently. I am very proud to have achieved the Sustainable Mark Award as it acknowledges the team's efforts in areas such as community projects, Apprentices and recycling and we will continue to go that extra mile in all parts of our service."
Seddon Glasgow office through Youth Build have taken on a new Trainee. Kirsty is the offices' newest recruit, and has joined Seddon on a one year placement that if goes well will lead to a full time Apprenticeship.
Kirsty commented: “I am so happy to have been offered this opportunity by Seddon. Painting and decorating is something I really enjoy doing and since joining Seddon I have learnt lots of new skills. My mentor Steve is brilliant and I learn a lot from him, he is a fully qualified painter and decorator and one day I hope I will follow him and become a fully qualified trades person. Thank you to the team at Seddon for all their support.”
Stephen McGuiness, Painter and Decorator and Kirsty’s mentor Commented: “She is really good and has really impressed me with her attitude. She works hard and listen's well. I was once an apprentice myself, so I know how important that opportunity is and if she keep putting in the effort she has been then I know she will go on to be very successful. It is also great to see young females coming into the trade, they act as great role models."
Staff from Bathgate and Glasgow Offices attended the Scottish Decorators Federation Conference on Friday 30th March 2012. Kerrie-Ann Yeomans and Derry Cuthbert who are 2nd year apprentices showed off their painting skills on the day. The stand received a lot of attention from the other exhibitors as well as the Scottish Member of Parliment for Edinburgh who commended Kerrie-Ann and Derry on their painting skills.
At the conference we received an award from Construction Skills for our continued support and development of apprenticeships in Scotland.
The Scottish Decorators Federation Conference was held at the Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club on Friday 30th March 2012. Mr Mark Puller, Operations Manager was awarded Project Manager of the Year for Edinburgh University for the 2nd year running. Receiving this award is an attribute to the dedication and hard work and the good working relationship Mark has with the client.
Mark Pullar commented’ It was a great honour to receive this award for the 2nd year running and I was delighted to collect this award not only for my recognition in making this contract a success but for the team that has been working on the various sites at Edinburgh University as without their had work and dedication we would have not won this award.
Kevin Shutt, Strategic Operations Manager commented ‘ We were very pleased to accept the award, it is a reflection of the hard work and commitment the Operation Team based in Bathgate put into the delivery of projects to provide a first class quality service that they provide to our clients. Well Done. Mark’.
Equality and Diversity to Seddon is about recognising and valuing our diverse workforce and the service we provide to many minority and diverse communities. We aim to create a culture that embraces these differences for the benefit of our customers, clients, employees and the general public. Quite simply it is about treating all people we have contact with, with dignity and respect!
Our Operational Centre in Romford is one example of where our employees are working in a diverse range of communities and tailor their service to meet the local demands of our customers. We currently work in various communities in the Romford area where 90% of the population are Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) and require our Operatives such as Patrick and Elvon to communicate with our customers ranging in; age, disability, who don’t speak English as their first language, and who are from many different cultures. We do this to provide a tailored service that treats each individual customer with respect. We find that this is a continuous challenge that we are enhancing our services to ensure that we not only meet this challenge but excel through it.
Elvon Shield, Painter and Decorator who is currently working in the East End of London commented; “Seddon put a big emphasis on employing people from the local community in which they work, I joined Seddon as an Apprentice over 6 years ago and I think this is really important because as a local London and Quadrant Housing resident myself, I understand the local make-up of the area and I can use this local knowledge to relate to the customers. We work in many diverse communities, but because a lot of the Seddon employees live local, the Seddon team also reflect this. For me personally it is simply about respecting people and trying to provide them with the service I would expect if someone was working on my house.”
